 The Templars were founded in Jerusalem in 1118 by Hugh de Payns, a nobleman from Champagne, and eight other knights. They are known by their weapons including knight templar swords They lived together as monks under a monastic rule called the Rule of St Benedict. 


The idea for the formation of the Order came from Hugues de Payen's experiences as a knight during battles between Europe and Muslims (from North Africa) over possession of Jerusalem between 1096–1187 (the Crusades).

Thousands of years before Christianity emerged from its humble beginnings, swords were created solely for defense purposes against dangerous animals. The earliest knight templar swords also were made using bronze, which is an alloy of copper and tin. Bronze was strong but fragile, so swords created with this material could not stand up to continuous battle within a short amount of time. 


Small amounts of iron were later added to the mixture in order to strengthen these weapons. It wasn't until about 1000 BC that iron started to be used in the creation of swords, due to the difficulty in working with iron. This new form of steel allowed for greater flexibility in a knight templar sword creation and resulted in longer lasting weapons that could withstand the test of time.

The Knights Templar were a Roman Catholic military order that was founded in Jerusalem in A.D. 1118 by several French knights including Hughes de Payens and Andre de Montbard. They initially started out as a small group with about nine members, but eventually grew in size and popularity to include thousands of knights from different parts of France. 

 

The concept behind the Knights Templar was to protect pilgrims with their knight templar swords as they made their journeys to the Holy Land and several religious sites such as the Temple Mount, as well as to protect Christian pilgrims from attacks by bandits and roaming tribes. At one point, the group became so successful that it became wealthy and powerful, with its members becoming some of the richest men on Earth.

The Knight templar sword also amassed a great deal of power and influence with many European leaders through donations and grants of land. They had become too big for Rome’s taste, however, and by A.D. 1312, Pope Clement V ordered them disbanded and their wealth and possessions confiscated. 

 

With the group’s wealth and power lost, the knights dispersed and began their lives anew. At this point, they were once again a small group of men with a few soldiers in France and England who guarded pilgrims to the Holy Land.

 

But what about the knight templar swords? Well, during this time period in history, sword technology was growing at an exponential rate. As time progressed without the knights to protect Christian pilgrims, it became much easier for local tribesmen like the Saracens to rob and attack groups of traveling pilgrims.
